The History of Mardi Gras in Pensacola, Florida

Mardi Gras is a festive season celebrated by many people! It is also known as Fat Tuesday and is typically celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesday. The festival is celebrated in many countries worldwide, but is especially famous in New Orleans, Mobile, and here in Pensacola, Florida! It has been a tradition for over 100 years. The parades feature colorful floats, costumed revelers, live music, and dancing and are often organized by krewes, social clubs that are a central part of Mardi Gras celebrations. In addition, participants in the parades usually throw beads, trinkets, and other small items to the crowds lining the streets.
