Blue Angels

In Pensacola, we have the honor of calling the Blue Angels “Our Blues,” and we are so proud to share our hometown with these brave pilots! The Blue Angels fly all over the world showing off the power of United States Naval Aviation. There are airshows scheduled all over the US this year, but we’ll be highlighting their practice schedule & hometown shows in this guide, as watching them fly on their home turf is the most amazing way to see them soar!

I could attempt to describe the awesome power of this elite team of pilots, but I think their Commanding Officer, Alexander P. Armatas, describes them best.

“Our team consists of 138 world-class, active-duty Sailors and Marines, each one bringing experience and expertise from their service in the fleet. We are honored to serve as the representatives of the more than 800,000 active-duty, reserve, and civilian men and women currently serving worldwide in the Navy and Marine Corps.” – Commanding Officer, Alexander P. Armatas

Best Place to View the Blues

National Naval Aviation Museum

The world-famous Blue Angels are based at NAS Pensacola and can be seen practicing over the Museum at the National Naval Aviation Museum (NAS). Come watch them soar and then spend the day at the Museum. Admission is free, and if you go during one of the autograph days, this is the best way to get your hero to sign a photograph! They also have concessions, seating for 500 on their bleachers, and more.

Pensacola Bay

Pensacola Bay on Pensacola Beach is a great destination to view the Blue Angels! Not to mention, after the hour of jaw-dropping excitement, you can make a day of it on the beach, and visit the world-famous beaches with sugar white sands. A great place to take the family, bring a picnic, and dip in the water. Bonus points if you float on the Bay while you watch the Blues!

Pensacola Lighthouse

This may be the most unique place to view from, and you have to make a reservation to make sure you can secure a time slot, as this is a highly coveted local spot to view the Blues. You’ll get a full 360 panoramic view of the Blue Angels pulling off their dynamic performance, and a great history lesson at the lighthouse as well. Make sure that you leave those who are scared of heights on the ground floor, as this vantage point is not for the faint of heart!
