Pointe South Real Estate Sales: Your Gulf Coast Real Estate Experts

Practice Sun Safety this Summer!

DSC_1105Owning real estate in Perdido Key, Pensacola or along Alabama’s Gulf Coast is the summer is a dream come true. You can pick any day of the week to live like you’re on vacation. But, to really make the most of it, be sure you practice sun safety and don’t let the heat get you down!

Hitting the beach or swimming in your new pool are excellent options for keeping cool and beating the humidity. But, remember there is more to heat safety than just keeping your cool. It’s UV Safety Month and we want to make sure you’re properly equipped to avoid heat stress and effects, especially if your Perdido Key real estate or Gulf Coast home purchased makes you new to our area.

The heat index during the summer is pretty much outrageous no matter the time of day, but being outside between 10 AM and 4 PM puts you at the highest risk to suffer sun and heat related affects. So, if the yard needs to be mowed or errands need to be down, try to get up and out early or leave them to the end of the day. You need to be in the A/C – or your pool – the rest of the day.

Have to be outside? That’s okay, just take a few precautions. First, wear a hat, preferably with a wide brim. Also, grab your favorite UVA/UVB blocking shades when heading outdoors. Oh, and sunscreen. That’s a big one. Shoot for something with an SPF30, although SPF15 will do in a pinch. Last, but not least, drink lots of water and carry a bottle with you!

Andy Ross Sets Gulf Coast Lionfish Record

gulfcoastlionfishcoalition_logoThe annual Gulf Coast Lionfish Removal and Awareness Day is quickly approaching, and with that we could not be more proud to sponsor such an event. This year, we have even more reason to celebrate as Perdido Key real estate agent, tournament host and fishing captain, Andy Ross found himself with a record-breaking catch. Just last week, Andy caught a seventeen foot long lionfish off the shores of Pensacola Beach.

Andy is a captain with Nihui Dive Charters has been an active member of the Gulf Coast Lionfish Coalition for years. The fish was caught just in time for the group’s festivities, helping to hype the upcoming events and festival. With the festival, the Lionfish Coalition aims to educate the public on how to control the influx of the invasive species and further protect the Gulf Coast fishing industry.

On Friday, the Coalition will host a lionfish tasting at West Marine on Davis Highway in Pensacola. (Yes, you can eat these invasive boogers, and yes, they are delicious!) May 14 and 15 are considered the main event days, where the Coalition gathers with food and entertainment at the Plaza de Luna in Pensacola. Be there from 10:00 – 5:00 pm for a full day of fun, education and support. We will most definitely be there!

The Perdido Key Pirate Festival

pkc_piratefest_aside_2015Saturday, September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and it’s no coincidence that the 3rd annual Perdido Key Pirate Festival falls on that day. If you are the current owner or Perdido Key real estate or are looking into buying a home in that area, this is a family-friendly event that you won’t want to miss.  The event begins at 11:00 AM at Big Lagoon State Park and ends that night at 5:00.

All attendees are encouraged to wear their best pirate gear, and everyone will enjoy the tasty food, pirate costumes and incredible prizes. Pirate Captain Davy will teach all the young pirates some sea-shanties, magic tricks and so much more! In the park’s Amphitheater, there will be a reptile display by Reno’s Reptiles. Pensacola’s pirate ship, “Good Fortune,” will be out on the water, as well.

The kids will not only love these performances and displays, they will also adore the variety of arts and crafts station that local vendors will have set up throughout the Perdido Key Pirate Festival. All of the kids are encouraged to hunt for pirate coins, redeemable for thousands of dollars in prizes, and the child who finds the “Lost Key” will take home a grand-prize treasure chest! Don’t miss this fun-filled, family-friendly event along the beaches of Northwest Florida.

Realtors Take 3rd in Perdido Key Golf Tournament

imageFall is finally here and we all know what that means – perfect golfing weather. Less humidity, cooler temperatures and unlike many country counterparts, there’s no snow on the ground. Every resident and frequent visitor knows this and looks forward to influx of area tournaments.

One of the most recent was held by the Perdido Key Chamber of Commerce at the Lost Key Golf Club. The chamber put on the event in conjunction with the Frank Brown International Songwriters’ Festival on November 10th. The annual tournament hosts celebrity songwriters’ in addition to other four person teams who compete on behalf of Veteran’s Day.

This year, two of our own Pointe South real estate agents competed in the tournament and we are pleased to announce that they placed third in the entire event. Pensacola and Perdido Key real estate agents, Scott Marks and Dave Harbour formed a team with two friends, Mike Whitner and Kelly Robinson.

These guys did an incredible job and we so proud to have them represent Pointe South. Many thanks go out to the Lost Key Golf Club and Perdido Key Chamber members for hosting such a great tournament. We are looking forward to many more in the future!
